Dunkin Donuts: Pumpkin Spice Donut
Now here is a donut that I can revisit. The Pumpkin Spice has a pleasing glaze on a traditional ring shape. The colour is perfect for the season, and so it falls right into place. Having been bitterly disappointed by its seasonal sibling, I was more hesitant than I might have been.
The texture was good, and the taste spot on. A good balance on the spices with nothing standing out as over bearing. The glaze adds additional sweet notes. The flavor lingers pleasantly, but is accompanied by a wax feeling on the palette.
Most will pair this with coffee. I would suggest as an evening treat, pairing with Sierra Nevada's excellent Celebration IPA. The two balance and compliment each other well, and while one donut is enough, I think I will have another beer.
Cheers!

Dunkin Donuts: Pumpkin Pie Donut
So, Moaning Donut is about to earn its name, with the advent of the Pumpkin Pie donut.
At the Dunkin Donuts, where this was bought, they only had two types left. Not a good sign. It was a choice between this or the plain. Given it is the season, I thought, "Why not?". I found out.
The exterior of the donut is well presented. The crumb topping a nice touch, while the main donut is the regular quality Dunkin Donut. The filling is the problem. The taste is reminiscent of pumpkin pie, without committing to it. The texture is an abomination. I am not a fan of frosting, and this feels like a big piped goop of that. In has no give, and prefers its own company to that of the donut. I cut through the donut to take a closer look and you can see the results here.

Verdict: Half eaten. I wanted to like this donut so much more. A pumpkin pie filling that was truer to its cause would be so much more rewarding. I won't be buying this again this season.
